Whatever is wrong with Zakee, the medical tests are not showing any improvement. Her younger sister is in the hospital with stage four lung cancer, and the doctors said if she doesn't get surgery today, she will die. Maki has no money, no parents, and no one to help her. She is just a girl alone in the world trying to save the only person she has left.
Maki is walking without even looking where she is going. She is so lost in her pain that she doesn't notice she has stepped onto the main road. Suddenly, a car comes rushing towards her. The driver slams on the brakes just in time to avoid hitting her. The driver is Dr. Ahmad, who had just left the hospital after talking to Zakee. He jumps out of the car, really angry, and starts shouting at her. He asks if she is crazy or if she wants to get herself killed and cause trouble for him. But Maki doesn't even fight back. She just stands there and starts sobbing. When Ahmad sees how much she is hurting, his anger disappears. He realizes something is very wrong. This scene is so emotional, like something out of AURAN YARINTA where life just throws too much at a young person.
Ahmad tries to be nice and offers her a ride, but Maki says something that really hits hard. One part of the book says — "Motar ka baza ta iya kaini inda nake so ba, Im out to look for money Dan ayi wa ƙanwata aiki." This translates to: "Your car cannot take me where I want to go, I am out to look for money so my sister can have her surgery." When Ahmad hears that her sister has cancer, he feels terrible for her. He is a doctor, so he knows how expensive and scary that is. He looks at this beautiful, desperate girl and then he thinks about his friend Zakee. An idea starts to form in his head. He tells her to get into the car so they can talk properly. Maki is scared and suspicious, but she has no other choice. She needs a miracle, and maybe this stranger is it.
Ahmad drives her to the hospital where her sister is staying. On the way, he makes her a proposal that sounds like something out of a movie. He tells her he will pay for the entire surgery and all the medical bills, but in exchange, she has to sign a contract. The contract is for marriage. He wants her to marry Zakee. Maki is stunned. She doesn't know who Zakee is, and she doesn't understand why a stranger would want to buy a wife for his friend. She thinks about her sister's life versus her own freedom. It’s such a heavy moment.
